Depart Nairobi in the morning at 08:00 am and drive along the floor of the Great Rift Valley to Lake Nakuru National Park. You will arrive in time for lunch at the Lake Nakuru Sopa Lodge. The park is Kenya’s first rhino sanctuary and one of the largest concentrations of black rhinoceros in the world, as well as a large population of white rhinos, are found here. Also of interest is an area fenced off as a sanctuary to protect Rothschild's giraffes. Among the predators are lions, leopards and large pythons hiding in the dense woodlands which may occasionally be seen crossing roads or dangling from trees. Other game includes Thomson’s and Grant's gazelle, the long-eared leaf-nosed bat, colobus monkey, rock hyrax, hippo, waterbuck, impala, striped hyena, bat-eared fox, wildcat, reedbuck and golden cat. You will enjoy an early breakfast and then view the game as we exit the park. We drive via the Great Rift Valley to arrive at Masai Mara in time for lunch at Masai Mara Lodge. We go on an afternoon game drive till dusk, then return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay at Mara Sopa Lodge.

Mara Sopa Lodge

Located on the slopes of Oloongams Hills, it is one of the first lodges to be built in the Masai Mara Game Reserve. Guests are drawn to this lodge built in an ethnic design, surrounded by a rich landscape, covered in fauna, from huge desert cacti to sweet smelling jasmine flowers, all within the fabled Masai Mara game reserve.

Famous for the abundance of lion, the Great Wildebeest Migration and the Maasai people, well known for their distinctive custom and dress, it is without a doubt one of Africa’s most famous safari destinations.

All the buildings follow the design of traditional African roundhouses, with conical roofs, and these stretch along the line of the hills with the impressively large public area buildings and the swimming pool at their centre. The lodge has fifty guest cottages divided into two wings to either side of the main public areas. Each of these houses has two spacious guest rooms with queen and king size beds; mosquito nets; electronic safes; dressing tables; en-suite bathrooms and sheltered verandas that all have views over the gardens and the game reserve beyond.

You have a full day to spend exploring the park in search of the Big 5. An optional hot-air balloon safari can be arranged at an extra cost of US$450 per person. The Mara offers wildlife in such variety and abundance that it is difficult to believe that over 450 species of animals have been recorded here. You will easily see lions, rhinos, hippos, crocodiles, giraffes, wildebeests, zebras, buffalos, warthogs, hyenas, jackals, wild dogs, leopards, many kinds of antelopes, and elephants. Mara is where the most spectacular event in the natural world takes place. This is the annual migration of millions of wildebeest and zebra from Serengeti in Tanzania in search of water and pasture. Following on their heels are the predators of the savannah - lion, cheetah, wild dog, jackal, hyena, and vultures. An optional visit to a local Maasai village at a cost of US$35 per person is not included in the price. All meals and overnight at Mara Sopa Lodge.

After breakfast and check out by 8.30am, depart for a return road transfer back to Nairobi. Arrive Nairobi in the afternoon. Drop off at Jomo Kenyatta International airport for your home bound or at your Nairobi Hotel.
