The Ol Pejeta Conservancy is situated on the equator, west of Nanyuki between the foothills of the Aberdares and Mount Kenya. The Conservancy boasts of the largest Black Rhino sanctuary in East Africa and in 2013 reached a population milestone of 100 black rhinos. It also houses the three remaining Northern White Rhino in the world. The Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary is situated here, and provides a haven for orphaned, abandoned and rescued chimpanzees. It is the only place in Kenya where these great apes can be seen. The Conservancy is host to the “Big Five” among a large selection of other African animals. Samburu Sopa Lodge is situated in one of Kenya's most famous wildlife areas. Tastefully decorated in keeping with the colourful Samburu people. Situated in the middle of the Samburu Park, on raised ground giving panoramic views of the dramatic and rugged land surrounding it.

All the public areas are spacious and offer uninterrupted views of the surrounding landscape. The restaurant and reception are decorated with local artifacts and rich earth colours typical of the Samburu area. Leisure facilities include a swimming pool. The lodge is built to reflect the architectural heritage of the local communities whose sons and daughters make up the majority of the work force at the lodge. After breakfast proceed for a game drive in this lush and region of north. The water of Ewaso Ny’iro River attracts a profusion of game. This area is known for the rare species of wildlife that are endemic. Depart Samburu after breakfast for Lake Nakuru National Park, arriving at the Park in time for lunch. In the afternoon a game drive is planned. Besides the flamingos that the lake is famous for, there are approx 400 other species of birds visiting the lake. Also, many species of game can be found in the park including the introduced Rothschild's giraffe, black and white rhino, waterbuck, reedbuck, lion, buffalo, leopard, baboon and many species of plains game. In the afternoon you’ll take a boat ride along Lake Naivasha to Crescent Island, where you will be doing a nature walk next to zebras, giraffes, wildebeest, waterbucks, antelopes, and many types of birds. Set in 200 acres of private land, and with a rustic charm all of its own, the lodge nestles in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro which, at almost six thousand metres, is Africa’s highest and most famous snowcapped mountain. It was this region of Kenya that, in the 1930’s, inspired Ernest Hemingway’s unforgettable stories ‘The Snows of Kilimanjaro’ and ‘The Short, Happy Life of Francis Macomber’ which were turned into more than successful feature films in the late 1940’s due to their renowned actors. All forms of wildlife still abound in this wilderness which continues all the way to the Amboseli National Park, an easy twenty minute drive away from the lodge.

The lodge is set within mature and wooded gardens, with fragrant frangipanis, colourful bougainvillea and giant cacti which all thrive in these surroundings. The gardens are an ornithologist's paradise, besides being a temporary home to monkeys, mongooses, squirrels, duikers, the occasional gazelle and once in a while, even an inquisitive leopard. Wildlife is abundant in this wilderness, which continues all the way to the Amboseli National Park, a 20 minute drive from the lodge. Over six hundred breeding species of birds can be found in the park, as well a host of rare and wonderful wildlife. This is also home to the Maasai people, perhaps the world's most renowned African tribe, who provide an open-air local craft market for guests.

A walkway over a fishpond leads to the the Kibo restaurant opening onto a terrace, where a multi-ethnic combination of European, African and Asian dishes, all made with fresh produce, are served. Wherever possible, all the produce required is sourced from the rich farmland areas nearby, supporting the surrounding agricultural communities.
